Eves Hill Farm in Norfolk.

Eves Hill is a traditional family farm which employs the highest possible modern standards.
The Buxton family have been farming at Eves Hill since 1960.
Eves Hill Farm is comprised of 250 acres of arable and grassland.
Eves Hill is located in the pretty Norfolk village of Booton.
Booton is 12 miles north of Norwich in the River Wensum catchment area.

The Buxton family have been farming at Eves Hill since 1960. Three generations have worked on the farm: Grandfather, Father and now Son.

At present the farming business is a family Partnership between parents Robert and Rita, and their son Jeremy Buxton.

Eves Hill Farm has a long history of cattle farming, keeping a beef suckler herd until the end of the 1990s. Nowadays, we are breeders of fine pedigree poll Herefords.

We wanted to re-introduce cattle to the farm for a number of reasons. Firstly, in order to return to more traditional farming methods, using grass in the arable rotation to improve soil structure and fertility and to make use of existing permanent pasture. We wanted to use a native beef breed in establishing a herd which is (comparatively) easy to handle and performs well on a mainly forage diet. Herefords matched our requirements and we believe they look great too.

Eves Hill is managed under the High Level Stewardship (HLS) scheme. Over the past few years we have planted miles of hedgerows, new woodlands and a great number of native trees. Field margins have been established with wild flowers to attract insects, especially pollinators like bees and butterflies. Not only has this created new and diverse habitats, but also preserves the local landscape and makes a wonderful environment to farm and for our Hereford herd to live in.

The farm is host to a huge array of different birds and animals. Birdlife includes buzzards, skylarks, game birds (including grey partridge), song birds and owls to name but a few. We plant areas of bird feed to help the bird population on the farm through the winter.

It is also very common to see hares on our fields, and many deer roaming around the farm.

Visitors are welcome, just let us know when you'd like to come and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Our Herd
At Eves Hill Farm, we breed pedigree poll Herefords.

The Eves Hill herd was established in March 2013 when we bought eight cows with nine calves at foot, and two heifers from Greg Flack's Salcey herd. We aim to continue the great work that Greg did in creating Hereford cattle that stand out amongst the rest, and greatly value Greg's continued support and advice as we seek to take the herd forward.

Our stock bull Fisher Harrow comes from the renowned Fisher herd owned by Reg Hutchings and Son in East Sussex. Again we are also very grateful to Reg for his help and advice, regarding all things Hereford. We are delighted with Harrow, a fine bull with an excellent temperament, and we are extremely pleased with the calves he has produced to date.

Heifers are calved down at two and a half to three years as we prefer to have size in our cows and this gives them time to mature.

We are in year one of joining the Biobest HiHealth Herdcare Scheme and to date all tests have returned negative. We test every four years for TB and this year all animals tested were registered negative with no reactors.
